TMDB gives you a live window into what the world is watching right now. The browse experience surfaces thousands of titles across movies and TV shows, organized into curated categories that reflect real-time popularity, critical acclaim, and what’s currently in theaters or airing on television. Whether you want to catch up on this week’s most-talked-about film or find a highly rated series to binge, the browse page is your starting point.
Content rankings and category listings are refreshed daily using data from The Movie Database API. Trending categories update every 24 hours, so the titles you see today may differ from yesterday’s results.

Browse categories

When you open the browse page, content is organized into distinct categories. Each category uses a different ranking signal so you always have multiple angles for discovering something new.

Browsing movies vs TV shows

The movie browse view gives you access to every film category in one place. Use the category pills at the top of the page to jump between Trending Today, Trending This Week, Popular, Top Rated, and Now Playing. Each movie card displays:
  • The official poster art
  • The film’s title and release year
  • The TMDB community score as a percentage badge
Clicking any card takes you to the full movie detail page, where you can read the synopsis, see the cast, watch trailers, and explore similar titles. Now Playing is unique to movies, and shows only films that have an active theatrical release in at least one country. This list is ideal when you want to plan a trip to the cinema.
The browse page is divided into horizontal rows, one for each category. Each row shows a scrollable strip of content cards. You can:
  • Scroll horizontally within a row to see more titles without leaving the page
  • Click a category heading to open a full paginated view dedicated to that category, giving you access to hundreds of results
  • Use the top navigation to switch between Movies and TV show browse modes at any time
From any full-category page, use the browser back button or the site breadcrumb to return to the main browse view.

Filtering by genre

Every full-category page includes a genre filter panel. Genres are sourced directly from TMDB’s official genre taxonomy and cover categories such as Action, Comedy, Drama, Horror, Science Fiction, Documentary, and more. To filter by genre:
  1. Open a full-category page by clicking a category heading (for example, “Popular Movies”).
  2. Locate the Genre filter, displayed as a row of selectable chips below the page title.
  3. Click one or more genre chips to narrow the results. Selected genres are highlighted.
  4. The results grid updates immediately to show only titles that match all selected genres.
  5. Click a highlighted genre chip again to remove it from the filter.
Genre filters can be combined with any browse category. For example, you can browse Top Rated movies filtered to Drama and History simultaneously to find acclaimed historical dramas.
