TMDB tracks television series with the same depth it brings to film — every show in the catalog has a rich detail page covering the full run of the series, from its premiere date through to its finale or current airing status. You can browse season-by-season, dive into individual episode summaries, check air dates, explore cast and crew credits, and find your next series from curated recommendations. Whether a show is a three-season classic or an ongoing prestige drama, TMDB keeps the data current.

All TV show data, including episode air dates, cast credits, season counts, and series status, is sourced from The Movie Database (TMDB) community database and updated continuously. Information for currently airing shows may be added within hours of an episode’s broadcast.

Show and episode views

Shows

The show detail page presents a complete picture of the series as a whole. At the top of the page you will find:

• Backdrop image — a wide promotional still used as the page hero
• Poster — the series’ primary key art
• Title — the show’s name, with the original title displayed when it differs from the localized version
• Overview — a summary of the show’s premise and tone
• TMDB score — the community vote average displayed as a percentage alongside the total vote count
• First air date — when the pilot episode first broadcast
• Series status — the current production state of the show (see status types below)
• Number of seasons — total season count, including special seasons when applicable
• Number of episodes — cumulative episode count across all seasons
• Networks — the broadcast or cable networks that air the show, with logos when available
• Streaming availability — where you can watch the show in your region, based on TMDB’s watch provider data
• Genres — clickable genre tags linking to related browse lists
• Production companies — the studios responsible for the show

Below this header block, the page is divided into sections for seasons, cast, crew, recommendations, and similar shows.

Series status types:

Status	What it means
Returning Series	The show is ongoing and has been renewed for future episodes
In Production	A new season has been announced and is currently filming
Planned	A show that has been announced but has not yet begun airing
Ended	The show completed its run intentionally, with a series finale
Cancelled	The show was discontinued before a planned conclusion
Pilot	A single pilot episode has aired but a full series has not been ordered

Episodes

The episode view gives you granular detail on every individual episode within a season. To reach the episode view:

1. Open a TV show detail page.
2. Scroll to the Seasons section and click the season you want to explore.
3. The season page lists all episodes in broadcast order.

Each episode entry includes:

• Still image — a frame or promotional still from the episode (when available)
• Episode number — the season and episode number in S01E01 format
• Episode title — the official episode name
• Air date — the original broadcast date
• Runtime — episode running time in minutes
• Overview — a plot summary for the episode
• TMDB episode score — a community rating specific to that episode, separate from the overall series score

Episode ratings are particularly useful for navigating long-running shows — high-scoring episodes in a series you are sampling can serve as a guide to its best moments.

For shows that are currently airing, episodes that have not yet been broadcast display a placeholder with the scheduled air date and episode title (when released by the network), but no overview or still image until after the episode airs.

Season listings

The seasons section on the show detail page displays a card for each season in the series. Each card shows:

• Season poster — artwork specific to that season, or the show’s main poster if no season art exists
• Season name — typically “Season 1”, “Season 2”, and so on; special seasons (clip shows, bonus content) are labeled accordingly
• Episode count — the number of episodes in that season
• Air date — the premiere date of the first episode in the season
• Season overview — a brief description of the season’s storyline arc when available

Cast and crew

The cast section on a TV show page lists the series regulars — actors who appear in a significant number of episodes. Each entry shows the actor’s profile photo, name (linking to their people page), and character name.

For long-running shows with large ensembles, the cast is surfaced in billing order with a “Full Cast & Crew” button to expand the complete list. The crew section covers the series creator, executive producers, showrunners, and key recurring crew by department.

Individual seasons and episodes can have their own cast and crew credits that differ from the series-level list. These are visible on the season and episode detail pages respectively.

Similar shows and recommendations

At the bottom of every show detail page, two rows of related content help you plan your next watch:

• Recommendations — shows that TMDB’s algorithm suggests based on genre overlap, shared cast, thematic similarity, and viewing patterns of other users who watched this series
• Similar shows — titles that share genre tags and general characteristics with the current show
